Marc Di Paolo
Director, Defense Institution and Capacity Building NATO Headquarters, Brussels
Marc Di Paolo is assigned to NATO’s International Staff as Director, Defense Institution and Capacity Building. In that role, he manages a portfolio of programs that help NATO partner nations to implement defense and security sector reforms and to improve their overall interoperability with NATO. He is also Director of NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre. His prior role at NATO was as Head of Operations for Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Global Coalition to Defeat Da’esh/ISIS. Before joining NATO, he served at the U.S. National Geospatial Intelligence Agency as Director, Enterprise Innovation. In that role he enabled the agency’s digital transformation initiative with new models for leading and managing high risk projects. Marc graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1988. His operational experience as a pilot includes Special Operations and Combat Search and Rescue in Iraq and Afghanistan during multiple deployments. He also served twice as a strategic planner for the International Security and Assistance Force in Kabul, Afghanistan. Previous staff assignments include the Office of the Secretary of Defense as Country Director for Afghanistan, the U.S. Joint Personnel Recovery Agency as Chief of Strategy and Requirements. At the Defense Intelligence Agency, he was Director of the Latin America Joint Support Element and served as a Defense Attaché in Colombia.
