Daniele Riggio

Press Officer, NATO Press Office

Daniele Riggio is currently serving, as Press Officer, in the Press and Media Section of the Public Diplomacy Division, at NATO Headquarters in Brussels (Belgium). His responsibilities include, amongst others, Afghanistan, NATO’s southern and south-eastern flanks, Iraq, the Western Balkans, and Ukraine. Before that, Daniele served for several years as Information Officer with responsibilities over NATO members and NATO partners (including Italy, Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Afghanistan, the Central Asian Republics, Iraq, and Pakistan) in the Engagements Section of NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division. Daniele joined NATO Headquarters in October 2001 as intern within the then office of the NATO Secretary General’s Special Advisor for Central and Eastern European Affairs. In June 2002, he became Information Officer for the Public Diplomacy Division.

On behalf of NATO International Staff, Daniele has in the past been deployed to Afghanistan and Pakistan. In Afghanistan he served as Political Advisor to the Commander of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) (October 2003-February 2004), as Political Advisor to the NATO Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan (March-October 2004), and as Senior Political Advisor to the NATO Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan (September 2008-October 2009). In Pakistan he assisted the NATO Civilian Representative within the framework of the NATO Disaster Relief Mission (fall 2005).

Prior to joining the Atlantic Alliance, Daniele was Civil Affairs Officer in Afghanistan for the United Nations Special Mission to Afghanistan (March 2000-September 2001). Also, between 1996 and 1998, he took part in various OSCE-led missions of elections monitoring in Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Albania, and Ukraine.

Daniele has a Juris Doctor degree from the Law School of Bologna University. He is qualified as Attorney at Law. He also has a Master Degree on International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University (Medford, MA, USA).
