Baron Lobstein is a career member of the U.S. Foreign Service and has served as Chief of the Economic Section at the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade since August 2019. He previously worked at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing as Chief of the Economic Section’s unit dealing with trade, technology and transportation affairs. He has also served as Director for Russia in the National Security Council, as Economic Unit Chief at the State Department’s Office of Russia Affairs, and as an Economic Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. He has also had postings at the U.S. Embassies in Uzbekistan and in Trinidad & Tobago. Before joining the diplomatic service in 2002, Baron worked at the National Democratic Institute in Washington, D.C., and as an investment analyst in Moscow. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Slavic Languages and Literatures from Harvard College and Master’s Degrees in Business and Arts Administration from the University of Cincinnati.
